Dogs wearing flower crowns are by far the most adorable thing EVER! I love thumbing through all of the ridiculously cute photos of dogs in flower crowns for weddings and photoshoots.
I fell in love with the idea of a floral crown on dogs and I couldn’t stop looking at all of those floral crown photos! That’s when I knew that I had to make one for my personal dog, Diamond.
My beautiful short-legged beagle mix, Diamond, is now a senior dog. 12 years to be exact. She has become very docile and sweet in her old age (most of the time, when she isn’t being a DIVA). We’ve been through all of life’s ups and downs together. She and I went through my first major break-up together, she was there ALL through college including late-night study nights. She was there when I graduated from college and ended my enlistment in the U.S. AirForce. We even battled my anxiety and depression together–she was always there to cuddle during excruciating panic attacks that mimicked seizures.
She’s like a child that I never had. I wanted to do something fun and special. A dog flower crown represented the best way for me to place a crown upon her head for all of the awesomeness she’s brought into my life. Diamond is the most loving dog, and literally radiates love from her eyes when I look at her.
I couldn’t imagine a better–more loving dog (Sorry Brisbane, don’t get jealous, mommy thinks you’re great too).
This dog Flower Crown is that something special. Once again, it’s a crown for my amazing dog. A photoshoot that undeniably captures her essence, freezing her love in time. A picture that I can look back at over and over again, feeling the love she gives me every.single.day.
And with all that said, making the dog flower crown was much easier than expected. I was able to finish it within an hour while watching YouTube videos. And the crown is so easy to customize when it comes to fresh flowers or fake flowers. Plus, it’s easy to mix and match colors, or to go with a seasonal theme!
How I decided on the Theme for my Dog’s Flower Crown
For this crown, I chose fake flowers. I wanted Diamond to be able to wear her crown whenever, but I also wanted to be able to show it to family and friends. And that wouldn’t have been possible by using fresh flowers because they would have wilted away quickly.
In addition, I chose flowers that would complement Diamond’s coat. She is a beautiful deep red, with a face that is turning white due to her older age. Therefore, I chose beautiful oranges, reds, and beiges for her coat type. Along with copper wire for an accent.

Where I Purchased My Items
I purchased everything I needed for the flower crown from Micheal’s. And I got really lucky because I got the flowers for 40% off! I love Micheal’s because of their arts and crafts selection. They have the cutest stuff and it’s incredibly affordable.

How to Make a Dog Flower Crown
I had so much fun making this flower crown. And, it was a lot less hard than I thought it would be–surprisingly.
Step 1- Measure the wire to fit your dog’s head

The first thing that you want to do is measure the wire to fit your dog’s head. So basically wrap it around itself into a circle. Then place the circle of wire onto your dog’s head to make sure that it fits snuggly.
Once you’ve made sure the wire fits on top of your dog’s head correctly, you can trim the wire according to the size you need.

Step 2- Wrap the Measure Wire Circle with Floral Tape (optional)
I didn’t wrap this particular flower crown with floral tape because I purchased copper wire. And I really wanted the copper wire to stand out and peep through the flowers. However, if you’re going for a natural feel–or purchased regular wire and don’t want to see it–wrapping it in the floral tape is a wise choice.
Step 3 Arrange the Flowers onto the Wire

Once you’ve decided whether or not to wrap the wire with floral tape, you can move on to the next step and begin placing the flowers on to the wire.
I chose two different flower types and mixed and matched the flowers based on how full the flowers looked on the actual arrangement. Feel free to add extra flowers here and there to match the exact look you’re going for!
This part can be tricky if you don’t secure the flowers with enough floral tape. You have to be sure the flowers won’t fall off when your dog is wearing it! So be sure to add extra tape as needed.
Step 4 Add more wire as an accented look (Totally Optional!)

If you’re looking to accent your dog Flower Crown as I did, then I recommend adding some extra wire and intertwining it between the flowers. My copper wire definitely complements the flowers and looks so awesome. But that’s my preference and may not be the look you’re going for, if not, I’d stick to just the floral tape.
Step 5 – Photoshoot Time
Be sure to capture the amazing moment of your dog in an adorable Flower Crown, that way you can have the moment last forever.

I simply used my Sony alpha 7 II to capture these moments, and then I simply edited the photos in Adobe Lightroom and Google Snapseed.
Make sure to just have fun with it!
